Staff stated they did not feel child was having trouble breathing but gave child inhaler and administered Epi pen. Staff stated they did not follow instructions for Epi pen administration because they immediately removed the pen without waiting the required amount of time for medication to be fully injected. After child in care was administered the Epi pen incorrectly the child did not receive immediate follow-up medical care to address allergic reaction and any possible adverse reactions to the Epi pen. According to SIR, when child was eventually taken the emergency room the next morning the child required 2 units of IV fluids to treat dehydration. According to child, they were vomiting all night. |
